Starpower Talent

Kieran's studio participated in the Starpower Talent dance competition in Wichita, KS this weekend.  I pulled Alisa out of school on Friday and we made it a girls' weekend.  We rented a car so that Ashar wouldn't be stuck at home with the boys and no vehicle.  I'd never been to Wichita before, but it was no surprise that the drive itself is pretty boring.  Luckily, I had great company.
I swear I thought we were doing a sassy face pic
Once we got checked into the hotel, Kieran had to start getting ready for her solo.  I just had to do her makeup and get her dressed; Amy planned to meet us later and fix her hair.
We had a little free time on our hands

Kieran took the stage for her solo.  It had been more than a couple of months since her first performance so I was nervous, but she was once again incredible.  She had so much more confidence and attitude up there!  I was really happy for her.  We waited for results.  Apparently, every competition does their ratings differently and Starpower used a star system.  The highest award is 5 stars.  Kieran received a 4 3/4 star.  Once ratings were handed out, we waited for overalls and Kieran placed 2nd overall in the 9-11 year old division.

We had nothing planned for Saturday, so we slept in, swam in the hotel pool, and then went out for dinner and a little shopping.  Sunday morning was a different story; Kieran's pre-repertory group was set to perform 3 dances (hip hop, jazz, and for the first time, lyrical) in 45 minutes' time.

All their group numbers placed in the top 5 and the hip hop routine was also awarded Most Entertaining.   As exciting as it all was, the best part of the weekend was just being able to spend time with my beautiful, crazy girls.
