Last week, Aydin reached 100% of his accelerated reader goal for the school year. Today, he was recognized in his school assembly's Rise & Shine and awarded with his AR shirt.
When Alisa was in kindergarten, I attended every Rise & Shine, ever week. Well, cute as it is, at this point in my life, I only go to the ones if I know my kid is going to be recognized for something, and even then it's a crapshoot as to whether I'll show up or not. I definitely want to be encouraging when it comes to reading (even though I don't think the AR program is all that and a bag of chips), so I showed up about 15 minutes into the assembly (my timing couldn't have been more perfect), heard his name being called out, watched him stand up in the audience and make his way up front, get his shirt, and walked over to me for a photo opp. He wasn't even back to his seat in the audience before I was in the parking lot. AND OF COURSE, as soon as I left, Kieran was chosen as a 3rd grade ambassador. She was surprised by the honor so she didn't know it was coming.
All in all, I'm so proud of both my elementary school kids. Good work, Aydin & Kieran!
