After much deliberation and many tears, Alisa decided to retire from gymnastics. It's been hard on her physically and emotionally and it was best for our entire family if she moved on. It was definitely one of the hardest decisions we've made.
After some time to decompress, Alisa began thinking about what she could do next. It's hard going from 20 hours a week of grueling physical activity to nothing (not that I would know.) She considered swimming for all of two seconds and then decided she wanted to run. It just so happened that Bentonville High School was to start their cross country practice the very next day.
I bought her new running shoes and early Monday morning, I dropped her off at the track. Wow--I don't know exactly what I expected, but I was shocked to see boys there. Cute boys. Cute, sweaty, shirtless, high school boys. I pretty much wanted to throw up. I can't believe I let her stay.
She's been at it for 6 days now and she loves it. She's already put 18 miles on her new shoes.
